NICU-calc for iPad provides the doctor or nurse working i the NICU, PICU or on the delivery ward with the vital advice and dose calculations when resuscitating premature or full term babies.
For premature babies with unknown weight, NICU-calc provides an estimation of the weight based on gestational age from weeks 22 to 43.
NICU-calc uses the ABCD-algoritm, with advise for:
A - Airway
B - Breathing
C - Circulation
D - Drugs, with calculations for Adrenaline/Epinephrine, Fluid Bolus (Blood or Saline).
NICU-calc calculates the appropriate surfactant dose for premature babies less than 32 weeks, the Prostaglandin E1 infusion dose for babies weighing more than 1kg and the Naloxone dose.
NICU-calc also calculates the correct size for endotracheal tubes and also the distance between tip of endotracheal tube and lips/nostrils.

Sources for calculations:
Weight Estimation is based on birth weight charts for gestational age in Canada. The average value for the 50:th percentile weight of male and female singletons is given to the user.
Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Drugs – Fluid Bolus and Drugs - Adrenaline/Epinephrine are based on the American Heart Association 2010 neonatal resuscitation guidelines. Fluid bolus is calculated for 10 ml/kg and Andrenaline/Epinephrine is calculated for 0.01 mg/kg.
Naloxone dose is based on guidelines of Canadian Pediatric Society. Calculated for 0.1 mg/kg.
Prostaglandin E1 (Alprostadil) dose is calculated 0.05 μg/kg/min. in accordance with Prostin VR Pediatric® 2004 data sheet recommendations on RxList.com
